Activities and Events

The National Park Service operates two interpretive centers, the Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center and Aviation Trail Visitor Center and the Huffman Prairie Flying Field Interpretive Center. These facilities provide an orientation to all park units and exhibits on the Wright brothers and Paul Laurence Dunbar. The restored Wright Cycle Company building is open to the public with exhibits on the Wright brothers’ bicycle business, and the Huffman Prairie Flying Field has self-guided facilities. Exhibits and visitor services are also at the Paul Laurence Dunbar State Memorial and Carillon Historical Park.

Join the staff of Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park for ranger-led walking tours of the historic Wright-Dunbar Village. Visitors are advised to carry water on hot days.

From the Wright brothers to Paul Laurence Dunbar, rangers will present a variety of topics.

Huffman Prairie Flying Field Walking Tours
May 28 –September 4, 2006
Sundays through Tuesdays, Thursdays through Saturdays* 10:30am
During the ranger-led walking tours, visitors will learn about the site where the Wright brothers developed the world's first practical airplane and their School of Aviation. Visitors are advised to carry water on hot days.

Huffman Prairie Flying Field Prairie Talks
May 28 –September 4, 2006
Saturdays* 9:30am
Walk through the natural prairie, Ohio's largest, and learn about its natural features.

*Tours subject to cancellation if required by Wright-Patterson AFB. Call (937) 425-0008 for field closures.

Huffman Prairie Flying Field Interpretive Center Talks
May 29 –September 4, 2006
Daily at 1:00pm at the Wright Memorial
Discover the past and present, as rangers discuss the memorial, the development of the air base and various topics.

Saturdays in December
An Old-Fashioned Holiday Celebration

December 2, 9& 16, 2006 at Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center
10:00am - 3:00pm

Come prepare for the holiday season and learn about the traditions of Christmas, Chanukah and Kwanzaa. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
