During the
ranger-led walking tours, visitors will learn about
the site where the Wright brothers developed the world's
first practical airplane and flying school. Visitors
are advised to carry water on hot days.
*Tours subject to cancellation if required by Wright-Patterson
AFB.
On August 10, 1896, Otto Lilienthal, German engineer and aeronautical
pioneer, dies following injuries sustained from a crash the
previous day of his single-surface glider. This event sparks
the brothers' passive interest in flight.
