Zimmerman's Tavern

Photo: Zimmerman's Tavern todayZimmerman's Tavern was a popular stop for canal travelers in the 1800s. Canal boats often stopped here while crews picked up grind-stones produced in area quarries. If time allowed, the men came to this tavern - known for its cock fights and rowdy atmosphere.

Although the flood of 1913 stopped most canal traffic, picnic and pleasure boats still frequented John Zimmerman's establishment. The building was later moved from the east side of Canal Road to the west side, then enlarged and restored.

Location: Zimmerman's Tavern is located on the northwest corner of Rockside and Canal roads in Valley View, Ohio, just outside the northern boundary of Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
