exhibit near this lock contains an historic photograph with a caption
that reads: 1892 photograph of Lock 31, "Lonesome Lock." The
lock is thought to have acquired its name because of its isolated location.

Location:
About 1 mile south of the Boston
Store Trailhead (50K) on the Towpath Trail and immediately south
