Peninsula is a quaint historic village in the center of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It hosts a variety of shops including art galleries, antique shops, restaurants, bicycle rentals, and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad depot.

It was a canal town that acquired its name because it was established at a location where the Cuyahoga River formed a large peninsula by following a huge horseshoe bend. That bend no longer exists because early mill owners cut a channel across the neck of the peninsula to obtain a greater elevation change in the river bed, making the river a better source of water-power.

This was also the location of the largest canal aqueduct in the Cuyahoga Valley which carried the canal over the Cuyahoga River. The foundation of that aqueduct and the remains of a lock can be seen adjacent to the Lock 29 Trailhead on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in the heart of town.

Location: The Lock 29 Trailhead is near the center of Peninsula Village. Peninsula is located on State Route 303, two miles east of Interstate 271 and three miles west of State Route 8 between Cleveland and Akron, Ohio.
