| A 2.4-mile round-trip hike to the Tri-State Peak provides for a leisurely mid-morning or mid-afternoon stroll. Begin your excursion by hiking the ½-mile Wilderness Road Trail, which is accessed at the Thomas Walker Parking Lot via the Object Lesson Road Trail. | ![]() |
| This trail intersects the Tri-State Trail
near the saddle of the Cumberland Gap. Along the way, discover the remains
of Union General George Morgan's commissary and magazine, which he ordered
to be blown up during the Union retreat from the Gap during the Civil
War. This site is recognized by the great depression left by the explosion,
which was so furious that the advancing Confederate army was sure they
were being shelled and halted their advance for 18 hours.
Standing at an elevation of 1,990 feet (607m) at the Tri-State Marker, you can experience the thrill of being in three states at once. |
