The Guzzler Rifle
At Cumberland Gap National Historical Park we have the unique opportunity to meet and share with numerous genealogy enthusiasts from all over the world. In their excitement they often relate to us stories that have been handed down through the generations of their ancestors who traveled the Wilderness Road and came through the Cumberland Gap. We soak up all of these to increase our understanding of life in the late 1700s and early 1800s.

But what of the thousands of untold stories, of the still unknown pioneers? No one kept any records of the first settlers coming through the Gap.

Today, 200 years later, we are compiling, name by name, this very list, related by the descendents of those who first traveled through the Gap, and you have an opportunity here to record your family's connection to Cumberland Gap. Simply fill out the form below and send it in.

When the Gap Restoration Project is completed, on the day of the opening we envision a re-creation of the first great migration with the descendents of the pioneers – who may share the same name, same mannerisms, even the same appearance – making the journey through the restored Gap.
