Park Research

This page will keep the public and interested researchers informed of ongoing projects in the park as well as areas in which the park staff have identified research needs and opportunities. Eventually, we would also like to have a bibliography of all the past research accomplished at Crater Lake.

Research Prospectus

After much time in the making, a pamphlet describing research opportuninities at Crater Lake has been published. Interested researchers will also be able to fill out a research permit form through the Investigator's Annual Report.

One possible funding source is through the Canon National Parks Science Scholars Program.

Crater Lake Bathymetry

Crater Lake National Park, in cooperation with the USGS, has just completed the first mapping of the bottom of Crater Lake since 1959. High-technology sonar was used for this project and generated millions of soundings. For more information, check out the USGS Crater Lake bathymetry pages.
