Horse Riding in the Park Regulations
Persons on horseback are permitted in the park in certain areas only. Those areas are:
- They may enter the park at the Scruggs chimney which is off New Pleasant
Road near New Pleasant Church. (Note: Unfortunately there is no parking
available at any location in the park.) They may follow the fire road
to the picnic area.
- They may then follow the picnic area road to the tour road following the
shoulder of the tour road to the historic Green River Road. (Note:
this is the only area of the tour road where horses are allowed.)
- They may cross the tour road only where the Green River Road intersects
it. Horses are allowed on any section of the Green River Road.
- Horses are to stay on the trails designated and are not to be on the mowed
areas of the picnic area, the battlefield, the Scruggs House lawn, or around
the visitor center and its parking area.
-
Horses may enter and exit the park off Highway 110 or off Hayes Road only
where these roads intersect the end of the historic Green River Road.
- Horses are allowed on the nature trail but should keep off the bridges since
thay are not designed to carry the weight of horses.
- Horses are to be under the control of the rider at all times. Owners are
responsible for the behavior and actions of their horses while in the park.
Skittish or untrained horses are not permitted because of the danger they
may pose to other visitors.
If you have any questions at all about these regulations or if you do not fully understand the attached map, please contact the visitor center before bringing your horse to the park.
A copy of the above regulations may be obtained from the visitor center.
Horses are permitted on the orange line only as shown of the following map:
