Visitor Center Renovations

Cowpens National Battlefield has begun making changes to the Visitor Center to make it more accessible for disabled visitors and to update and improve its appearance in preparation for the 225th anniversary of the Battle of Cowpens in 2006.

The park had the fiber-optic map room enclosed so that the map program and "Daybreak at the Cow Pens" could be shown simultaneously. Park staff and volunteers rewrote the map narrative and had the map revised to reflect recent research. An Assistive Listening Device and LED captioning were added for hearing-impaired visitors.

The park added automatic doors to make entering the building easier.

Finally, the park replaced the visitor information desk, centering, updating, and making it more accessible; replaced the carpet around it with a new wood laminate floor; replaced and centered the door to the offices; painted the wall behind the desk; and moved the bookstore to the opposite side of the room.
