Volunteers-In-Parks (VIPs)

Our volunteers are “very important people” and provide many hours of work for which we are grateful and we thank you for your interest in our volunteer opportunities.

Coronado National Memorial is located 20 miles south of Sierra Vista, AZ off Highway 92, approximately one mile from the Mexico border. Southeastern Arizona is an exciting area where birding opportunities abound all year.  Our prime season, of course, is winter where temperatures are cool.  We may even see a day or two of snow!

The spring and summer are warmer, but seldom do temperatures reach 100. Once the summer rains begin, the flowers, trees and grasses bloom and grow changing the browns of winter to a variety of greens.  As summer progresses and the days get shorter, the oranges, yellows and browns of fall can be seen.

The Memorial visitor center is located at 5,230 feet elevation in an evergreen oak woodland, with Coue’s whitetail deer, coatimundi and squirrels along with a variety of bird species coming to drink at the visitor center pond just outside the viewing window.  What better place to spend the winter, spring, summer or fall!

We have one RV space available all year.  It has full hookups and a phone connection although the volunteer is responsible for having the phone connected. There is a washing machine in the nearby dormitory and a clothesline nearby.  In exchange for the site, 24 hours per person per week for a couple is required or 32 hours for a single volunteer. There is a minimum assignment of three months.

After you have reviewed the volunteer opportunities available at Coronado National Memorial, please complete the volunteer application, print and mail it to us at the address at the bottom of this page. Be sure to indicate your interests and the dates, days and times you are available. If you have any questions, call the volunteer coordinator at 520/366-5515 ext. 22, or stop in at the visitor center if you are in the area.
