Historical Photo of Mules pulling a bargeTake a trip back in time to the 1870’s!

The C&O Canal NHP offers one-hour living history boat rides for groups of 10 to 80.

The special fare for school groups is $5.00 per person.

Photo of mules pulling a bargeYour students will learn about canals and canal families as the boat rises in a lift lock and travels along the canal under mule power.

Park rangers in period clothing will describe what life was like for the youngsters who lived and worked on the canal. In addition to family life, the rangers can include other curriculum in the program such as immigration, construction, transportation and western expansion.

The rides are offered at two locations: Georgetown in Washington, D.C. and Great Falls in Potomac, MD. Both locations can accommodate buses. Reservations are required, please call for availability or information.
