Swimming:

Charlie's Island in the East Palisades is a popular swimming location. (NPS Photo - Russell Virgilio)

Swimming is allowed in the park, however, you do so at your own risk.

Swimmers should be aware of the effects of hypothermia. Waters released at Buford Dam average 44 to 58 degrees year-round. When exposed to these temperatures, exhaustion or unconsciousness can occur in 30 to 60 minutes.

Please remember a $3.00 daily or $25.00 annual Park Pass is required on parked vehicles in the National Park. Information on purchasing a Park Pass is available in all parking lots at the self-service fee stations, by calling 678-538-1200, or by visiting the parking fee section of our webpage by clicking here.
