In May 1997, Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) became one of more than 90 units of the National Park System to participate in the Recreation Fee Demonstration Program. Authorized by Congress, the program allows parks to retain 80% of the fees they collect. This revenue is used for protection of resources and visitors, research, deferred maintenance projects, and educational programs.
