Interpretive Programs

The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area cordially invites you to Experience Your Backyard by participating in one or more of our interpretive programs in your National Park along the Chattahoochee River. These programs are an excellent opportunity to discover the natural and cultural resources of the park.

Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress according to the weather. Don't forget to bring sunscreen and your favorite insect repellent to make your visit one to remember. Dogs, while allowed in the park on a leash, are not allowed on these programs. The programs vary in length and location as noted below. The programs themselves are free but reservations are required to keep the group to an enjoyable size. For more information about the programs and to make your reservations please call the park at 678-538-1200.

Hey kids, now is the time to wet your line and catch a whopper at the Island Ford pond. Then take a break from the fishing to learn more about a healthy aquatic environment. If you have never fished before, now is your chance to learn all about fishing, including important things like which hat to wear. We have fishing tackle for you to use or bring your own pole. We will provide the bait so your mom doesn’t have to worry about loose worms in the car. Play like Tom & Huck when you arrive by building your own fishin’ pole! We will not be responsible for any tall tales after today. All kids must be under 16 and supervised by an adult. This program is limited to 20 kids per event so make your reservations early.  The event is FREE, although a $3 parking fee is required.

We will take a short hike to identify the trees that will make up your Collection. Don’t forget to dress for the weather including comfortable walking shoes.
