Plot out a one-month hobo journey of your own.
Visit at least five National Park System sites, such as monuments,
historic sites, parks, recreation areas, etc.
Explain what you want to experience at each park: What time of year
is the best to go? What kind of transportation do you plan to use?
Estimate the cost of your trip. Remember to include the cost of transportation,
room and meals.
Explain how you will finance your trip along the way.
You may add as much structure as you wish to this excercise. This journey
may be a modern day hobo journey, or it may be during Carl Sandburg's
time (that would require more research). You may ask your students to
produce a map, an itinerary, etc.
