Activity Description
Students read along while Sandburg reads The Dollar Watch and the
Five Dollar Jack Rabbits.
Using the context of the story, students evaluate the meanings of Sandburg's
made-up words.
Classroom Use

Time: 40 minutes; 20min. if Sandburg's
Dictionary is reviewed prior to activity; Two class periods if Slangalese
activity is included.
Materials: use of computer; photocopies
of Sandburg's Dictionary if necessary.
