Lighthouse Move Booklet on Sale

"At the first dawn of the twenty-first century the Cape Hatteras Light Station will look as it did in the last rays of sunset of the nineteenth century."

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Move - The New Location of the lighthouse at Cape Hatteras

So reads the last sentence of a new, comprehensive booklet, MOVING HATTERAS, which is the first definitive, non-technical public publication on the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Relocation Project. The new booklet, written and photographed by Cheryl Shelton-Roberts and Bruce Roberts, and published by Lighthouse Publications went on sale today at National Park Service Visitor Centers located along North Carolina's Outer Banks.

The 20 page booklet which includes a short history of the Hatteras light and the reasons for moving it, focuses on the move process in words, graphics and current pictures that help non-engineers interested in the project to better understand the process. A two-page artist rendition in the center of the booklet helps the reader to visualize the move. The booklet sells for $2.95 plus $3.50 for standard S&H (up to $20.00 merchandise). Add 6% NC sales tax for North Carolina residents.

The authors, Cheryl Shelton-Roberts and Bruce Roberts, are former owners of the Lighthouse Gallery and Gifts in Nags Head. They were instrumental in the organizing and chartering of the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society and continue to actively participate in the Society's activities including publishing its quarterly "Lighthouse News." The Roberts currently reside in Morehead City, North Carolina.

The booklet was made possible through funding from Eastern National of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, a private, non-profit organization that serves the educational needs of national parks and other public trusts. The booklet may be ordered by writing America's National Parks at 470 Maryland Drive, Suite 2, Fort Washington, PA 19034 or calling (877) NAT-PARK.
