Pre-Visit and Post-Visit Activity
7. FARM ANIMALS
Objective: Students will identify and count animals at Booker T. Washington National
Monument then construct a simple bar graph.
SOL Objectives:
Materials: Paper, pencil, crayons, scissors, and glue
Pre-Visit Activity Procedure:
- The students will brainstorm animals they think they will see on their visit to the plantation.
- The teacher will give out animal paper with pictures of the six animals they will see on their field trip.
- The students will estimate how many of each animal they will see. Record this information as a class and keep until after the field trip.
- The students will choose their favorite animal. Students need to color their favorite animal, cut it out, and paste or place on a graphing chart. Ask math questions pertaining to the class graph.
Post-Visit Activity Procedure:
- After the trip, the students will discuss the animals they saw on the plantation. The students will compare their estimations that were made before they went on their field trip.
- The students will classify and categorize the animal pictures.
