WARDROOM

"Gun two is right above the wardroom table, and
I know the ship's doctor said he was quite upset from time to time when he had to operate, and he had the gun right overhead. And when the gun goes off, you can't hear yourself think, let alone hold a steady scalpel."

Paul M. Jones
Executive Officer, 1944-45
USS CASSIN YOUNG

The wardroom served as a dining room and lounge for the ten to twelve ship's officers. During combat, the wardroom became the forward battle dressing station; therefore it was equipped with an operating table and surgical lights.
