Under threat by long-term deferred maintenance and neglect, this circa 1920 historic theatre in the center of Woonsocket's Main Street district was saved by the efforts of a non-profit group founded to promote its preservation. Since 1998, the Stadium Theatre Foundation has made steady progress resulting in re-opening of the theatre and has served as a key element in the nascent revitalization of Main Street.

Phase one of the restoration addressed building envelope and code compliance issues–electrical updates, roof repairs, heating systems improvements and ADA compliance. Subsequently, the ornate theatre lobby was carefully restored, as painted frescoes, ornamental moldings, and artwork were brought back to their original impressive character. The project used funding from a variety of resources, including federal and state grants, and private fundraising.
