Big Thicket National Preserve

 Studying Earth

Big Thicket National Preserve, like many other Park Service areas, offers informal education programs that focus on various elements of Earth and Biological Sciences. We maintain education alliances with local schools through our programs and are actively supported by our association with the G.L.O.B.E. network. GLOBE offers people of all ages a chance to participate in Earth Science observations. The data collected by students are downloaded onto the GLOBE website for all to use for scientific analysis.

Regardless, if you are a formal or informal educator, there are worthwhile tools available to study Earth. The National Aviation and Space Administration (NASA) offers a whole "galaxy" of information. This information is available at the NASA website Destination: Earth, The Official Website for NASA's Earth Science Enterprise. The links found on this page should keep you interested and busy.

Our small planet is a wonderful life support system. Few people have been able to study and view Earth from Earth orbit while others conduct their studies from its surface. These two perspectives of Earth continue to enhance our knowledge of this planet. As a professional organization that "ground truths" Earth, the National Park Service provides exceptional opportunities for the continued study and further enhancement of the sciences that assist us in understanding our small plant.
