This
room is called the Trapper's Quarters, but it housed not only beaver
trappers, a variety of boarders and employees were sometimes sheltered
here. From this room flowed the shouts of Kentuckians and Virginians,
men form Tennessee and Missouri, the always present Frenchmen, and
the words of Delaware and Shawnee Indians, excellent trappers and
huntsmen.
Trappers
using this room took the opportunity to repair weapons, clothing,
horse gear, and tools. While at Bent's Fort, moccasins and boots
could be resoled, holes patched in leather britches, new chains
and pans put on traps, and hot lead molded into bullets.
