Buffalo Robe
Buffalo Robe

The Native Americans of the area gave the traders buffalo robes.  A buffalo robe is the fur and the skin of the buffalo.  The Indians would skin the animals during the winter when the buffalo had their thick winter coats.  They would use the buffalo robes as their beds and blankets.

Indian Beads and Beadwork
In exchange for the buffalo robes the traders gave the Indians all sorts of trade goods.  The most popular item was the glass bead.  With strings of beads the Indians would decorate their buckskin dresses, moccasins and other clothing accessories.  They made intricate designs with very small beads.
