The
Council Room was described as an area where the Bent St. Vrain Company
hosted Indian leaders. Here, the company also gave feasts for the Indians
and smoked pipes with the chiefs. The success of these encounters weighed
heavily on whether or not they would trade, and so this became very
important. On these occasions the meeting was "flavored" by
speech-making and the graceful movements of sign language. Accounts
of the room don't mention much furniture. However, there were buffalo
robes to sit on during bargaining sessions.
