Volunteers and Interns
The Badlands National Park Volunteer Program is operated under the National Park Service Volunteers-in-Parks Program, created through the passage of the Volunteer-in-Parks Act of 1969. Due to a lack of housing during the summer months, volunteer opportunities are limited from June through August to internships and campground hosts.

| Internships |

|
| Badlands National Park has several non-paid internships in education each year. Education internships are available year round and last twelve weeks. Interested applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university in either an undergraduate or graduate degree program to be considered. |

Artists in Residence |
| Cedar Pass Campground provides 109 campsites for visitors to Badlands National Park. Sage Creek Campground is an undeveloped campsite located on the edge of the Badlands Wilderness Area. Both use campground hosts each summer; however, they require very different individuals. Cedar Pass hosts must provide their own recreational vehicle. Sage Creek hosts must be prepared to live in an extremely remote environment in their own recreational vehicle. |
|
Funded by Badlands Natural History Association, there are up to three residencies available in the park each year. Due to a lack of summer housing, residencies are not available from mid-May through mid-September. This program is open to professional artists. Residents are selected through a competitive process and should expect to give public presentations. |

| Other Information |
| Many other volunteer opportunities may be available, varying from clerical assistance (word processing and filing) to maintenance work to resource management. However, because of the lack of summer housing, these positions are available only from mid-September to mid-May. Volunteers not requiring housing may be considered for any time of year. These are true volunteer positions with no reimbursement for expenses, such as mileage or food, available. |
