Badlands National Park started this program in 1997. Qualified professional artists, musicians, and writers may apply to this program.
Application Deadline:
December 31st for Spring Position
July 15th for Fall Position
Residencies Available:
Must be a four week period.
Earliest date available: March 15th
Latest date available: November 15th
* No residencies are available from May 15th through September 7th of each year due to lack of housing. If your desired dates fall within this period, you are not eligible to apply.
What Badlands National Park Provides:
- A furnished apartment.
- Reimbursement of expenses up to $300.
- Access to park library.
What Badlands National Park Expects:
At the end of the residency, the artist will donate to the park one example of their craft in their preferred medium. The donation will become park property for use in publications, educational sales items, or park promotion. The artist should also expect to present at least two middle or high school level talks on their craft to local school children and give at least one public education program.
