In order for your students to be involved in this program, we will require the following commitments from your school:

1. Bag lunches for those students who have free or reduced-price lunches. We ask that  students bring a bag lunch for the first session, which runs from 9:00 am to 1:45 pm.

2. In-kind contributions in the form of the following materials: 1 ream of laser/xerox  quality  paper, for final printing of stories; markers; colored construction paper for  display of completed work; lamination of art-work, or clear contact paper to prepare for display.

5. 2-3 parent volunteers to assist with one-to-one or small group needs on field trip, and  with day-of-event work at the Reading.

In the 2005-06 school year, Aztec Ruins may be able to provide some funding for participants. Please indicate below if you will need the following support:

-- Bus transportation for students, 1 round trip from school to Aztec Ruins to tour the Ruins and begin writing stories

--Bus transportation for students, 1 round trip from school to Aztec Ruins for the Young Authors’ reading.

--For art and photography workshops, art and/or photography supplies.

We also ask that you commit to the philosophy and intent of this program, which is to give students the tools, setting, and the emotional/creative space to write and create art.  No content is disallowed, but the rules of the genre or conventions of the art form are made known and expected to be followed.  Please make sure you discuss the content and teaching approaches used in this program with the resident writer/artist, so you are a partner in the process and can comfortably commit to using these strategies and methods with your students in the future.

As collaborating teacher, you will be responsible for obtaining the necessary releases from families, for field trips, photographs, publication of stories, display of stories at Aztec Ruins, radio readings of stories, newspaper articles, or other publicity preceding or following the Young Authors Reading.
