Foster
Horse Program You can help support wild horse management and protection activities by becoming a Foster Parent. Participants receive a photograph and information about the horse they “foster” and a certificate in an attractive folder. A $25 contribution goes directly to education, long-term population monitoring and a contraception program to manage herd size at Assateague Island National Seashore. This contribution helps to protect both the horses and their fragile barrier island habitat. The Foster Horse Program is managed through a partnership between the National Park Service and Assateague Coastal Trust (ACT), a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the living resources of the Delmarva barrier islands and coastal bays. "Fostering" a wild horse can be done in person in Maryland’s Barrier Island Visitor Center or via the internet at www.assateaguewildhorses.org. When "fostering" online a $5 shipping and handling fee is added to the $25 contribution. |
