At a late hour, just as our paper was going to press, we received the following result of the election in this township:
Congress—Bates 84, Cassidy 10, Walker 8, Wallis 0, Slaughter 0.
Council—Notrebe 60, Roane 19, Phillips 16.
H. of Rep. — Allen 56, Trimble 35, Peeler 82, McKay 27, Harrington 26, Stillweel 20, Craig 2, and Horner 1.

DEFEAT OF THE PATRIOTS IN
TEXAS.

We have just seen a letter of the 14th inst. from a gentleman at Ouachita, to his friend in this place, which states that an attack was made, about the 1st inst. by the Spanish Royal forces in the Texas, on the Patriot army, near the Sabine river, and that the latter were complete defeated. Mr. William Glass, of this county, was taken prisoner by the Spaniards. We will give the letter entire in our next.
