Outer
Hall Pantry he
Outer Hall Pantry was a multipurpose area which served as the passage between
the north wing and center section of the house. Just upstairs from the Winter
Kitchen, the pantry was the room where the kitchen slaves put finishing touches
on the meals before serving them in the family dining room. Some limited food
preparation not requiring kitchen facilities may have also taken place here, but
room was primarily used as a storage area. Bath supplies and table furnishingsincluding
glass, china and linenswere probably stored in the pantry cupboards.

Today,
along the South wall of the room, visitors can see an original pine cupboard which
was given to Selina Gray by Mrs. Lee.
According to Gray family tradition, house
slaves used to place a warm glass of milk on the cupboard for Colonel
Lee each evening before he retired.
