Guest Chamber

Manyany visitors to Arlington were accommodate overnight in this Guest Chamber. Located next door to Mr. and Mrs. Custis's Chamber, the room was probably also used by Lee children who remained behind with their Custis grandparents when the rest of the family went to one of

their father's Army posts. Mary Custis Lee likely stayed here when Lt. and Mrs. Lee took Custis and Rooney to St. Louis, Missouri, where Lee was stationed from 1838 to 1841. Annie and Agnes probably used this chamber in 1852-1853, when they were allowed to remain at Arlington to be tutored by Miss Susan Poor, while the others were at West Point. This was also the room where Robert E. Lee and his groomsmen prepared for Lee's wedding on June 30, 1831.
