"The Civil War on the Web: A Guide to the Very Best Sites", compiled and
edited by William G. Thomas, Director of the Virginia Center for Digital
History, and Alice E. Carter of The New York Times on the Web will be available in
early November 2000. The authors combed and evaluated thousands of websites to
prepare this book. They have included only the most carefully constructed,
highly informative, beautifully designed sites on the Civil War. A CD-ROM
with hotlinks to all reviewed sites accompanies the book.
The prepublication reviews of The Civil War on the Web have been
outstanding. Civil War historian Gary Gallagher writes in the foreword, "It
deserves a place on any shelf of basic reference books on the Civil War."
Pulitzer Prize winning author James M. McPherson calls it "a fantastic
time-saver for anyone who wants to study the war on the Web." Gabor Boritt,
Director of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College, calls The Civil
War on the Web "indispensable." A review in the December issue of Civil War
Times Illustrated raves that "if you buy only one book this year on the
Civil War, The Civil War on the Web should be it."
