Dear Permit Applicant:

Below are links to Applications for a Special Use Permits. Please complete and return it with a $50.00 check or money order made payable to Antietam National Battlefield. The $50.00 cost covers permit processing and is non-refundable. Applications must be received at least 2 weeks before the date of the proposed event.

In addition to the $50.00 application cost, if the participants of your event visit the visitor center, they will have to pay the park entrance fee ($4.00 for each adult or $6.00 per family). (No fee or cost is charged to obtain a permit for groups or individuals wishing to exercise their First Amendment rights.)

In certain instances applicants may be required to pay the costs associated with a permit and the normal entrance fees. This occurs when NPS resources are assigned (e.g. traffic control) and event participants make use of park facilities. An example would be an organized bike ride that includes a stop at the visitor center and use of the park tour roads.

Other fees may be associated with your event. These costs are incurred by the National Park Service and result from your event. They include the costs involved with monitoring the event, inspecting black powder weapons, and directing traffic and other associated costs. Your permit will contain an estimate of these costs and you will be billed for these services after the event. The bill will not normally exceed the cost estimate. Permit holders must supply the equipment required for their event.

Many permit applicants would like to collect a fee for admission to their event in the park. Current National Park Service policy states that "A permittee, while on park property, may not collect admission or any other money associated with a special event. All permittee monetary transactions must take place outside the park". In keeping with this policy, I must deny future applications for applicants wishing to collect fees for their event.

Thank you for your interest in Antietam National Battlefield. If you have questions please contact Rangers Wenschhof or Beers at 301-432-2243.
