One of the most enjoyable means of viewing the Antietam National Battlefield is by touring the battlefield on a bicycle. The park has eight miles of paved roads open to cycling. Please take the time to review this guide to cycling at Antietam before you ride.

Federal Regulations
Bicyclists are subject to federal law and Maryland state traffic laws. Cyclists should pay close attention to road signs and be sure to follow the direction of the tour route. Riders under the age of 16 are required to wear a D.O.T. approved helmet. The park recommends that all riders wear an approved helmet.

Park Regulations
Bicycle riding is permitted on paved park tour roads and parking lots. Riding is prohibited on all sidewalks, leased agricultural land, and the Snavely's Ford Trail.

Safety Message
Park tour roads may pose a hazard for riders. Tour roads have many steep hills, which could increase speed beyond control. Sharp curves limit the rider's vision of oncoming traffic, wildlife, and road conditions. Posted speed limits are maximum limits for a motor vehicle. Bicycle brakes and safety equipment are not designed to control these speeds. Please ride cautiously. Look farther down the road and apply front and rear brakes before you approach a downhill stretch. Front and rear brakes should be applied at the same time for best performance. Take plenty of water with you, and don't forget to wear a helmet.
