The Invasion And Battle For Tinian
The Island of Tinian, only 3 miles away from Saipan across
an ocean channel, was invaded by the U.S. Marine Corps on July 24, 1944,
three days after U.S. Forces invaded Guam (150 miles to the south of Saipan).

Tanks landing at the invasion beach, Tinian. The invasion force
feinted an invasion at the beach in San Jose Village, in the center
of Tinian. But as the landing craft approached Tinian from the north,
those craft at the rear of the landing force split off and made
a surprise real landing at this beach on the northwest side
of Tinian island.
