Butterfly Checklist

The following checklist contains butterflies sighted at the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site in the summer of 1998. The study was completed by the Pennsylvania State University. The butterflies were observed in both open and wooded habitats. Next to each butterfly name there is specification as to where the butterfly was sighted.

Please use the following key as a reference:

(w): Butterfly sighted in wooded habitat.
(o): Butterfly sighted in open habitat.
(wo): Butterfly sighted in both wooded and open habitats.
