A spring is a source of water that comes to the surface from underground. The Sieur de Monts Springhouse was the idea of the "father" of Acadia National Park, Mr. George B. Dorr. He was from Boston, Massachusetts and spent summers on Mount Desert Island. He fell in love with the island and donated much of his time, energy, and money to protect the land that is now Acadia National Park. He had a special love of springs and had this springhouse built to protect the water below. Click here to see a photograph of George Dorr.
