What's Happened Here??

Carroll Homestead
Carroll homesteadFour generations of the Carroll family lived in this house starting in 1825. They grew their own vegetables, tended their own livestock, and made their own clothes. The Carroll children had daily chores of cleaning, helping with meals, feeding the animals, and even cleaning out the outhouse! Rather than venturing to the outhouse in the middle of the night, the children used a chamberpot that was stored next to their bed and later emptied outside. What do you think it looked like? Click here to see a photograph of a chamber pot.
