Cadillac Mountain is the highest mountain in Acadia National Park and the highest mountain on the eastern coastline of the United States. It is 1530 feet high. How tall are you? How many of you would it take to make up 1530 feet?
People have been enjoying the views from the top of Cadillac Mountain for a very long time. The Native Americans who lived on Mount Desert Island up to 5000 years ago used foot paths to travel to the mountain's summit. In the mid-1800's, people used horse-drawn wagons or walked up a dirt road to the top. In the late 1800's, a cog railway was built. Click here to see a photograph of the railroad. Today, there is a paved road that allows cars to visit the top of the mountain. What do you think the view looks like from the summit? Click here to find out! |
