Figure 2: Fluted point forms in the Southeast (after Anderson et al. 1996:10).
This figure displays illustrations of fluted point forms found in the southeast. It situates these points along a descending timeline. The earliest period demarcated at the bottom of the figure is Early Paleoindian (circa 11,500 - 10,800 B.P.). The only points appearing in this period are Clovis, of which there are four.
Above this, there is the Middle Paleoindian period (circa 10,8000- 10,500 B.P.). It contains 6 types of points. From earliest to lastest, they are: Cumberland, Clovis Variant, Suwannee, Simpson, Beaver Lake, and Quad.
Above this, there is the Late Paleoindian period (circa 10,500 - 10,000 B.P.). From earliest to latest, it contains 2 Fluted Dalton points, and 2 Unfluted Dalton points.
At the top of the figure, there is the Early Archaic period (circa 10,000 - 8,000 B.P.). It contains 9 different illustrations of 4 different types of points. From earliest to lastest, there are: 3 Bolen/Taylor/Big Sandy Early Side-Notched points, 2 Hardin Stemmed points, a Palmer/Kirk Corner-Notched point, and 3 LeCroy/St.Albans/MacCorkle Bifurcates.
