Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site

Collection Summary

This is the site of North America's first integrated iron works, circa 1646. The iron works include a blast furnace, forge and rolling and slitting mills. Associated museum items include cast and wrought iron products of the 17th century, tools, and hardware. The restored 17th century Iron Works House features period and reproduction furnishings. The holdings include a large archeological collection with field documentation. The archives hold rare books, photographs, negatives, taped materials, and architectural drawings and blueprints.
