Going-to-the-Sun Road Plowing Information

Plowing Activity
On May 3, 2012, the West Lakes Road Crew pioneered (initial cut with a bulldozer) and cut down to rotary depth from the second chute in the Alps(approx. 4 miles west of Logan Pass) to Grouse Point. They encountered snow depths of 6 to 18 feet.

On May 3, 2012, the Hudson Bay Road Crew continued working in the Siyeh Bend area (2.5 miles east of Logan Pass). The snow is 30 feet deep just past Siyeh Bend.

Projected Plowing Activity
On May 4, 2012, the West Lakes Road Crew will clear to the pavement from the 2nd chute in the Alps to Lower Watchman Point of Big Bend, approximately 3.25 miles west of Logan Pass.

On May 4, 2012, the Hudson Bay Road Crew will continue to plow beyond Siyeh Bend, 2.5 miles east of Logan Pass.

Note: Construction crews are now working all weekends on the Going-to-the-Sun Road rehabilitation project, except Memorial Day Weekend. This weekend and next weekend, the hiker-biker closure will be at Haystack Creek. This upcoming Monday through Thursday, there will be no hiker-biker access beyond Avalanche, until after 6 pm. Hikers and bikers should always be on alert for construction hazards.
