Overview
The Peavine/Sweezie Hollow Prescribed Burn was conducted on March 21 and March 27, 2012. Approximately 100 acres of the unit was burned on March 21 and the remaining 310 acres was burned on March 27. As part of this prescribed burn, a number of piles of mechanically thinned Eastern red cedar were burned in an effort to open up several glades within the unit.

Benefits of the Burn
The objectives of the prescribed burn were to restore fire and associated natural processes in order to retain species composition, maintain and expand glade complexes, and increase native species diversity.

Values to be Protected
Ozark National Scenic Riverways preserves a number of historic structures relevant to Ozark culture. In addition, private dwellings and park structures are scattered in and around the park. The park's curatorial storage building is located adjacent to the burn unit as well.

Partners Involved
Firefighters from Ozark National Scenic Riverways, Black Hills Wildland Fire Module, and Midwest Regional Office conducted the prescribed burn.
