Overview
The Longbay Prescribed Burn was conducted at Ozark National Scenic Riverways on March 18 and 19, 2012. On March 18 crews completed blacklining of the 1200-acre unit. On March 19 the interior of the unit was ignited by the NPS/USFS contracted Type 3 helicopter equipped with a plastic sphere dispenser.

Benefits of the Burn
Resource objectives are to restore fire and associated natural processes in order to retain species composition, maintain and expand glade complexes, and increase native species diversity.

Values to be Protected
Ozark National Scenic Riverways preserves a number of historic structures relevant to Ozark culture. In addition, private structures are scattered in and around the park. Several park housing units are located near the perimeter of the prescribed burn.

Partners Involved
Firefighters from Ozark National Scenic Riverways, Black Hills Wildland Fire Module, and U.S. Forest Service participated in the prescribed burn.
