As part of my effort to learn about all the different agencies at NIFC, I went around the offices, including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), interviewing their communications coordinators.
As part of my introduction to NIFC, I was taken on a tour of the facility. It was a lot to take in all at once, but I learned much about the organizational structure of wildland firefighting.
Effective communication is the responsibility of everyone regardless of your job description.
It happened on a Monday afternoon three hours before the crew was going off the clock.
Throughout the season, as I mentioned in earlier blog entries, I observed countless examples of our core firefighter principles of Duty, Respect, and Integrity, and I learned many lessons that will help push me forward in my life.
As a current Bureau of Land Management (BLM) employee at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), I was excited for a detail opportunity with NPS Fire and Aviation Management.
NIFC is like an off-road 4x4 vehicle. All of the agencies make up the engine and parts of the vehicle. Each part operates a different function, but all of the parts together build a lean, mean, beefy machine that can climb any mountain in any conditions.
Hello, my name is Brian Lawatch. I am the new Student Conservation Association intern for the National Park Service at the National Interagency Fire Center.
This Blog is intended for use by NPS Fire and Aviation employees to share their career experiences so that internal and external audiences might better learn about and understand the NPS Fire and Aviation Career field.
