SCOTTS BLUFF NATIONAL MONUMENT
GL-0025-9 Protection Ranger (Lateral)

Scotts Bluff National Monument is currently seeking applicants interested in a lateral reassignment into a permanent, full time GL-0025-9 protection ranger position. This is a 6c covered position. Occupancy is required.

In addition to the full range of law enforcement duties, the person in this position will oversee the park’s fee collection and volunteer programs. She/he must have and maintain a level 1 law enforcement commission, a wildland fire IQCS “red card”, and be EMS qualified as a First Responder (or higher).  Certification as a CPR instructor is desired, but not required.  Scotts Bluff National Monument is an area of concurrent jurisdiction and works closely with local, county, and state agencies.  Other National Park Service sites are within close proximity, providing opportunities for training, work details, and assistance with special events.  Callouts to regional and national incidents are encouraged and supported.

A prominent natural landmark for emigrants on the Oregon Trail, Scotts Bluff, Mitchell Pass and the adjacent prairie lands are set aside to preserve the memory of the historic Oregon, California and Mormon Trails.  Wagon trail ruts, archaeological sites, historic and pre-historic sites, and abundant wildlife are among the special features of this park.  The monument museum holds a unique collection of paintings by the frontier photographer and artist William Henry Jackson.  The North Platte River is the northern boundary of the Monument.

This position may be required occupancy or the person selected can choose to rent or purchase a home in the nearby communities of Scottsbluff or Gering.  The park is located in the North Platte Valley region of the Nebraska panhandle.  There are excellent medical facilities, the Western Nebraska Community College, K-12 schools, a regional airport, and affordable housing.  Recreational opportunities exist within a short drive along the front range of Colorado, the Black Hills and Badlands of South Dakota and Wyoming, and within all of the natural features of the Great Plains.      

This position is subject to drug testing and all physical fitness testing and training requirements for law enforcement duty.  Travel, transportation and relocation expenses will be authorized in accordance with appropriate Federal regulations.
