NIFC/NPS FIRE AND AVIATION MANAGEMENT
National Fire/Incident Situation Highlights

[Printer-friendly text version]

National Fire Activity – Preparedness Level 2

NIFC is at PL 2. Initial attack was light on Wednesday. Twenty-nine uncontained large fires are burning nationwide and seven incident management teams are committed, up two from yesterday.

Fire Weather Forecast

Scattered thunderstorms will develop again over the far Southwest, eastern Great Basin, and the central Rockies. Some storms could produce very heavy rain. A cold front will move through the northern Rockies, brining slightly cooler but windy conditions to the region. Otherwise, temperatures will remain very warm across much of the West. In the East, showers and thunderstorms will stretch along a front from the Great Lakes to the central and northern Plains. Hot and humid conditions will continue in the Southeast where afternoon thunderstorms will develop from the mid-Atlantic coast to the central Gulf Coast.
