GL-0025-9 Wilderness Ranger (Lateral)

Yosemite National Park is seeking candidates interested in a full-time, subject to furlough wilderness ranger position.

This is a lateral reassignment opportunity for a Level I or Level II commissioned ranger into a 6c covered position.  Housing may be available within the park. This announcement may be used to fill other vacant GL-0025-9 permanent positions throughout the park should the need arise.

Yosemite National Park is located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, with a variety of recreational opportunities available. A market, stores, restaurants, church, day care center, and elementary school are all located within Yosemite Valley. Small towns, including Mariposa and Oakhurst, are approximately a one hour drive away, and large metropolitan areas including Fresno and Merced are two hours away.  Additional park information can be found at: www.nps.gov/yose.

Yosemite’ Wilderness is known worldwide for its spectacular natural beauty. Sitting astride the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the park covers 1,182 square miles of varied wilderness ecosystems, from river valleys to alpine meadows to lofty 13,000 foot high peaks.

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:  Resource protection patrols in wilderness areas require special skills to safely work and live in primitive, solitary conditions.  Patrols by foot, ski/snowshoe and/or horses and pack animals is required.  The employee will provide emergency medical treatment to visitors and employees and must maintain EMT Basic qualifications.  Backcountry permits will be issued in accordance with the park's management plan. Work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, climbing, hiking, and lifting heavy objects.  Work schedules are subject to rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
