Great Smoky Mountains National Park is currently seeking applicants interested in a lateral reassignment into a protection ranger position stationed in the Cades Cove area of the Tennessee District. Cades Cove is one of the park’s most heavily visited areas with more than two million visitors each year.
Cades Cove Area rangers are responsible for a high volume of law enforcement and all-risk duties, including traditional patrol operations, EMS, SAR, resource protection operations and wildland fire. The park has an active FLETC field training and development program. Opportunities may exist to participate as a field training ranger.
The local communities of Maryville, Townsend and Wears Valley offer affordable housing. The city of Maryville (population ~ 30,000) boasts the state’s top school district as well as a wide variety of shopping and recreational opportunities.
This is a full-time, permanent position. Possession of a level I law enforcement commission is required. The position is subject to drug testing and all physical fitness testing and training requirements for law enforcement duty. Travel, transportation and relocation expenses will be authorized in accordance with appropriate Federal regulations.
